The Little Shoe on Bold Street opens second site in the iconic St George’s Hall

The Little Shoe on Bold Street recently rebranded and refreshed by the owners of East Avenue Bakehouse, announces the opening of a second site, The Little Shoe at St George’s Hall in Liverpool’s Victorian masterpiece.

Five years after bringing fresh, seasonal, British produce, the independent family business – based at 112 Bold Street – embarks on the next stage of its development. Following a private launch from Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Christine Banks, The Little Shoe will be open from 10am-4pm on Friday 12 April, then every day from 10am-5pm (except for Sundays when the Heritage Centre of St George’s Hall is closed).

After a face-lift to what was the basement Heritage Café, The Little Shoe team welcomes the opportunity to bring their seasonal, fresh, British food to the many visitors of St George’s Hall, under its stunning brick vaulted arches.

Visitors are urged to come and relax with a coffee and cake in one of the new comfortable armchairs, with quick fresh lunch options, or afternoon tea with a glass of wine also available to enjoy in one of the finest neoclassical buildings in the world.

The Little Shoe team have designed the decor with a nod to the Victorian heritage of St George’s Hall and have accentuated the exposed bricks, incredible arches and textures of the space.

Paul Durand, head chef and co-owner said: “We jumped at the chance to bring a local independent business into a building which is not only a major attraction in Liverpool, but also the emotional heart of the city.”

Paul has created a small seasonable menu available 10am-5pm, and offers the new café for events and gatherings with canape style and catered menus available. With many local food suppliers, draught beer from Love Lane Brewery and great coffee, the team hope to show visitors the quality that Liverpool and its surrounding areas has to offer.

Alan Smith, general manager of St George’s Hall, said: “We are simply thrilled to be welcoming The Little Shoe to St George’s Hall. Both residents and visitors of the city know that Liverpool has an independent food scene which has boomed in recent years and is continuously developing, and the team at The Little Shoe have been at the forefront of that with their eatery in Bold Street.

“For a world-renowned neoclassical building of St George’s Hall’s stature, there was a desire to breathe new life into our food and drink offering. We have an impressive history which wows visitors – now we have a premier food service to match.”

Where does the name The Little Shoe come from?

The piece of bread that you use to wipe up the sauce from your plate is known as a “scarpetta” in Italy. In English this means little shoe. Many customers have used our delicious bread to mop up the last bit of gravy on their plate, hence The Little Shoe”.
