Dust off your morning suit and get ready to buy a fancy hat, because Liverpool St George’s Hall is about to make matrimonial history with a first-ever marriage on the iconic Minton tiled floor.
The team at St George’s have thrown out an invitation to all couples planning their big day to enter a special one-off competition to win a dream wedding by getting married on the Mintons.
The £10,000 prize includes the wedding ceremony in the spectacular surroundings of the Great Hall, officiated by Liverpool’s head registrar and a pair of ushers will announce the couples’ entrance. You’ll be serenaded into the room by city organist Professor Ian Tracey on the world-famous Willis Organ, whilst Liverpool’s-own Mezzo Soprano, Danielle Louise Thomas will sing in celebration of your special day.
The hall’s official photographer will capture the event, there’ll be a glass of fizz for up to 50 guests and more besides.
But the real pull is the Minton floor, as Liverpool City Council’s halls manager Angie Redhead explains: “We have checked the archives, spoken with our registrars and we can say that no-one has ever had their wedding ceremony on the Minton floor before so this really will be a history-making event.
“St George’s Hall is one of Liverpool’s most iconic venues, it’s at the heart of our city and it’s a place that our community is drawn to during times of celebration. What better place could there be to say ‘I do’?”
The Minton floor contains 30,000 handcrafted tiles depicting the city’s coats of arms, sea nymphs, dolphins and the Roman god of the sea Neptune. It is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s finest tiled floors.
During August the team behind St George’s will be hosting special floor reveal events, which can be booked via the hall’s website. But getting married on the Mintons is a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
