St George’s Hall Organ Recitals

Given by the widely revered Professor Ian Tracey, Organist to the City of Liverpool, St George’s Hall Organ Recitals are set to return for 2024!

Please Note: Tickets for this event can be purchased on the door only. All proceeds for this event go to St George’s Hall Charitable Trust – an independent board which raises funds to protect, preserve and enhance the Grade I listed status of St George’s Hall.

About the Willis Organ at St George’s Hall

The organ at St George’s Hall was built by “Father” Henry Willis and completed in 1855, It has since undergone numerous renovations, due to modernisation and maintenance. The Willis Organ is supported by proceeds from St George’s Hall Charitable Trust.

About Professor Ian Tracey

Ian Tracey has a life-long association with the City of Liverpool and its music. A native Liverpudlian, he studied at Trinity College, London, and at St. Katharine’s College, Liverpool, winning scholarships to study organ in Paris with Andre Isoir and Jean Langlais and conducting with Vernon Handley.

He was appointed Organist of Liverpool Cathedral in 1980, since which time he has played most of the major venues in the UK, many of the prestigious organs in Europe and has made 25 extensive tours of the USA and two of Australia.

1985 saw his appointment as Liverpool City Organist and as Chorus Master to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society; in which latter capacity, he has conducted over 250 concerts with the Society’s orchestra and choir. In 1988 he was elected Professor, Fellow and Organist at Liverpool, John Moores’ University, and appointed as a Guest Director of Music for the BBC’s Daily Service.

In addition to that from his Alma Mater, he holds Fellowships from many prestigious musical institutions, including the Royal College of Organists, Royal School of Church Music, Guild of Church Musicians and the Royal Society of Arts. In 1994, he was awarded the North West Arts Award for Classical Music and in 2006 The University of Liverpool conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Music (Honoris Causa), in recognition of his long and distinguished service to music in Liverpool and of his national and international reputation as a musician.

He was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Merseyside in 2015.

Please Note: All of the above recitals take place from 12.45pm-1.30pm. Tickets are sold at a cost of £5 per person on the door.
